Tony Juurlink is the founder, owner, lead climber and ISA Certified Arborist at Lynx Tree Care. He lives in New Liskeard with his wife, four children, two dogs, and a few chickens. He is a proud family man and an active member of the community of Temiskaming Shores. Tony's educational and career journey has not just been limited to arboriculture. On top of being certified by the International Society of Arborists (ISA), he has also earned an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from McMaster University, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Nipissing University.
Tony is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about trees, tree health care, and tree preservation. He is a self proclaimed tree nerd and spends a lot of time engaging in learning opportunities related to all things trees. Tony has learned and developed his tree climbing, tree care, and property management skills over more than 25 years, performing tree work for companies like Glen Abbey Golf Course, The Davey Tree Company, and Lynx Tree Care. To better serve our customers and their trees, Tony furthered his education and became an ISA Certified Arborist. This international designation recognizes his vast knowledge, experience, and commitment to ongoing learning in arboriculture.
All this knowledge and experience helps to make Tony and the team at Lynx Tree Care the right choice for property owners looking for highly skilled tree preservation and removal specialists.
At Lynx Tree Care we believe in honest fair pricing. We are extremely hard working and efficient tree care and removal specialists. What we do is often extremely dangerous and physically demanding work. Pricing tree work requires a thorough understanding of trees, customers' expectations, and what's involved to safely and efficiently complete the job. First we assess the property and the work required. Then we use that information to estimate how long the job will take, how many employees are required, and what equipment will be needed. We do not believe in pricing jobs based on the number of trees — some trees only require an hour's worth of work while others could take multiple days.
If you live within 30 minutes of New Liskeard and would like an estimate, we will be happy to send an ISA Certified Arborist to your property to assess what needs to be done and provide you with a fair estimate. Although pictures and videos are helpful, in most cases we prefer a site visit to accurately assess the work to be done.
If you live farther than 30 minutes away from New Liskeard, we may forgo the site visit on a case by case basis. In this case we gather as much information as possible through communication with the property owner, pictures, and possibly videos to determine what equipment is needed and the number of employees required, and provide an hourly rate specific to that job.
At Lynx Tree Care, we provide our customers with great value for the services we provide. When customers hire us, they are hiring hard working professional tree workers that are fully insured (liability and WSIB), safety focused, and highly trained tree care and removal specialists.
Your property and your trees deserve the best care possible. When looking to hire an arborist, property owners should consider many factors which include but are not limited to knowledge, experience, qualification, insurance coverage, safe work practices, professionalism, reputation, work ethic, reliability, communication skills, trustworthiness, availability, and fair pricing.
When comparing arborists it is important to acknowledge that you are not comparing "apples to apples." Not all arborists have the same qualifications, knowledge, and/or experiences. There are many aspects to arboriculture, most of which take years to master. Unfortunately arboriculture is an unregulated industry where many practitioners possess little to no experience or qualifications. As a result, trees may not get the proper care they deserve and workers and property owners are at greater risk of potential accidents and unexpected costs. This is why it is so important for property owners to do their research when hiring — to make well informed decisions based on more than just the costs and availability.
At Lynx Tree Care we promote a culture of hard work, safety, and continuous learning. We are well trained and committed to meeting or exceeding industry specific standards and best practices to take the best possible care of the trees and properties we work on.
When selecting an arborist to work on your property you should ask for proof of insurance, about their qualifications, and their experiences in the industry.
It is very important that property owners protect themselves legally and financially by hiring contractors with all the proper insurance coverage for the work they claim they can do. If the contractor does not have appropriate liability insurance and damage happens to the property, the property owner may be on the hook for the repair costs. If the contractor does not have the appropriate WSIB insurance and one of the workers gets injured or dies on a customer's property, the property owner may be held legally responsible and liable for potential costs and fines.
Although anyone in Ontario can call themselves an arborist, an ISA Certification is one of the best ways for property owners to validate an arborist's credentials and commitment to industry standards. ISA Certified Arborists are experienced professionals who have passed comprehensive exams covering all aspects of tree care. Unfortunately many "tree workers" claim to be "qualified" or "certified" but don't actually possess industry recognized credentials. ISA certification holders must follow a Code of Ethics and use industry accepted practices and standards.
Arboriculture is a multifaceted profession requiring many different types of skills — including tree assessment, tree health care, ground work, rigging, removal, pruning, equipment operation, stump grinding, tree appraisal, arborist reports, and tree inventories. Hiring an ISA Certified Arborist helps property owners know that the person they are hiring has extensive industry related knowledge and experience in all aspects of tree care.
In Ontario it is generally accepted that to become competent in the trade of arboriculture it takes a minimum of three years of year-round full time practical work experience — more than 5,000 hours of industry specific work. For arborists who only work seasonally, it can take as many as ten years to reach 5,000 hours. In fact, arborists who have not completed a minimum of three years of year-round full time practical work experience are not even eligible to apply to become an ISA Certified Arborist.
Under most circumstances availability should not be a property owner's top priority unless it is an emergency situation. To be honest, the arborist with immediate availability is probably not the arborist you want to trust with your property. At Lynx Tree Care we recognize that some jobs should be prioritized and require immediate attention. This is why we have developed a triage system for scheduling based on safety and tree specific requirements. If your trees are safe and the work is not time sensitive, your job gets put in queue and completed more or less in order of booking. Emergency or time-sensitive situations jump the queue. So if you are looking to have Lynx Tree Care help you, it is always a good idea to book early.
The ISA Certified Arborist designation helps property owners know that the person they are hiring has extensive industry related knowledge and experience. ISA Certified Arborists are committed to following up to date industry best standards and practices for safety and tree care.
In Ontario anyone can call themselves an arborist, but the qualification and use of the term "Certified Arborist" is a designation that can only be earned through the International Society of Arborists (ISA). It refers to a professional who has demonstrated extensive experience and expertise in tree care and successfully completed the ISA comprehensive exam which covers all aspects of tree care. This certification is intended to promote a high standard of knowledge, safety, ethics, and care in tree related industries.
Unfortunately, there are many people who claim to be "qualified" or "certified" arborists, but do not possess actual credentials. Due to the dangerous nature of the work we perform, and the amount of harm that can be caused to trees, properties, and people by unqualified tree workers, we strongly encourage people to hire ISA Certified Arborists.
You can look up any ISA Certified Arborist using the official ISA directory:

Lynx Tree Care works year-round, even in the winter! However, the depth of the snow in our region and the bitter cold temperatures add to the level of complexity when working on trees in the winter. Based on years of experience in the industry, we understand that some circumstances require winter tree work, but we can often save our customers money by deferring work to warmer seasons. At Lynx Tree Care we schedule work based on the best interests of the trees, safety, and our customers.
No, we do not offer discounted rates. We believe in offering fair pricing year-round for the skilled work we provide. What we do is often extremely dangerous, especially during the winter months. It is skilled work that takes years of experience to master.
We also believe that we can save many customers money by deferring some winter work requests to the warmer seasons if it is in the best interests of the trees, safety, and our customers. Companies that offer winter discounts are usually trying to find work during the slow season with little concern for trees or their customers' best interests. The reality is, jobs take longer, have increased risks, and are harder on equipment in the winter.
In summary, we are willing and available to assist you with your trees year-round. Our ISA Certified Arborist provides honest recommendations regarding the timing of work to best suit the needs of the trees, property safety, and our customers' wallets.
